The George West Police Department wants to remind you to be very observant when driving on Houston Street at the schools. There are three designated crosswalks as well as parked cars along Houston Street. Motorists should yield to individuals at the crosswalks. A child was struck in this area yesterday by a vehicle. While the injuries sustained were reported as being minor, it is a serious reminder to each of us that a child or any other pedestrian may walk across the crosswalks at any given moment and children may even cross between vehicles, giving you very little time to react. Drive slow through this area and pay attention to the posted school speed limits in place as well as pay attention to your surroundings as you drive. These types of situations are the reason officers conduct traffic enforcement and enforce cell phone use prohibition. Slow driving and being vigilant sure beats the alternative!!!
